Starting August 1st, we had two polls running throughout the month. Our first poll asked who your favourite scream queen of the 70’s and 80’s was. This one had a total of 31 votes and an obvious winner. Here are the results:
1.) Jamie Lee Curtis
Surprise, surprise. As predicted, Jamie Lee won by a landslide with a whopping total of 12 votes! She is best known for her role is the Halloween franchise, as well as Terror Train, and perhaps her most terrifying role of all… Freaky Friday. (Cue laughter).
2.) Linnea Quigley & Barbara Crampton
Tied for second place is Linnea Quigley and Barbara Crampton, receiving 5 votes each. Miss Quigley is one of my personal favourites, and she is best known for her roles in Return Of The Living Dead, Night Of The Demons and Silent Night Deadly Night. Barbara Crampton -- another amazing actress -- is known for her roles in Re-Animator, Chopping Mall, and Puppet Master.
3.) Heather Langenkamp
The ever-beautiful Heather Langenkamp was very close behind with a total of 4 votes! You’ll recognize her most from The Nightmare On Elm Street franchise.
4.) Felissa Rose
Very few horror fans won’t recognize this beautiful actress from her iconic lead role in Sleepaway Camp, but unfortunately she wasn’t as high up on the list as I thought she might be. Felissa Rose received a solid 2 votes. Two is better than none, right?
5.) P.J. Soles, Marilyn Burns, & Dee Wallace
Last, but not least, in fifth place we have a three-way… er, I mean -- three-way tie, receiving just 1 vote each! Trust me when I say this: although they didn’t win first place, these three ladies definitely each hold a special place within my cold black heart. Starting with the infamous P.J. Soles, you will remember her mostly from her role in Halloween as well as Carrie. As for Marilyn Burns? You can watch her in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. As for Dee Wallace? She’s been apart of a lot of films but she might be best known for her role in E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial as well as The Howling, and Cujo.
The second poll that we had turned out to be the more popular out of the two with 38 voters. The question asked was “Who’s your favourite horror movie icon?” I do want to apologize to those who voted, because there were a few that should have been included but were forgotten about. Honourable mentions go out to Pinhead, Tall Man, and many others that were pointed out to me after the fact. To be honest, I don’t know where my brain was with Pinhead not on the list. Sincere apologies. Continuing on, here are the results:
1.) Michael Myers & Hannibal Lecter
Although I was not at all surprised that Michael Myers won the title of favourite horror movie icon, I was a little bit shocked about Doctor Lecter. Nonetheless, congrats to these two terrifying killers for their tied victory of 9 votes each! You can see Michael Myers slash his way to first place in the Halloween franchise with a total kill count of 94 people. Hannibal Lecter did not bite off more than he could chew with this poll, and you can find him in several novels written by Thomas Harris or if you prefer cinema you can find him in Silence of the Lambs/Hannibal franchise with a total kill count of approx. 9 people before his capture (differs depending on source material).
2.) Freddy Krueger
One, two, Freddy’s comin’ for you… That’s right! Used to it from Freddy vs. Jason, Freddy again wins second place in this poll with a total of 7 votes! Freddy will haunt your dreams if you catch him in The Nightmare on Elm Street franchise! As for the kill count? Freddy alone took the lives of 35 victims.
3.) Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, Pennywise
Yet another three-way, but this time definitely not one I would take part in. Everyone, we’ve got a three-way tie between Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, and Pennywise -- each of them receiving 4 votes! Jason Voorhees is obviously known for his role in the Friday the 13th franchise where he slashed a total of approx.146 people! Leatherface is from what is considered by many to be the best slasher flick of all time -- the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise -- with a total of 30 onscreen deaths. Lastly, we have Pennywise the dancing clown, best known from Stephen King’s novel It and made iconic with the TV miniseries. As for the kill count? Pennywise took a measly 9 victims.
4.) Chucky (Charles Lee Ray)
The last vote went to Chucky from the Child’s Play franchise. Although (for the most part) it is considered a beloved horror franchise, the votes seem to have gone elsewhere! Chucky has murdered a total of 38 people. Yikes! Who would’ve thought that a foot-tall doll could cause so much damage?
5.) Billy the Puppet
Sad times for Billy the Puppet. He is in last place with a solid… what was that? Zero votes?! To bad so sad! If you don’t already know who Billy, is you can find him within the Saw franchise. Maybe he will make another appearance in the much anticipated 8th installment? Who knows. We’ll just have to wait and see!
I want to thank each and every one of you who took part in the August 2016 polls! As for those of you who didn’t have a chance to vote before the polls went down, please comment your choices in the comment section below and don’t forget to take part in this month's polls!
