12 Days of Creepmas: Ginger-Dead People Recipe

I am totally going out of my element here, but I wanted to share my ginger-dead people cookie recipe with everyone here at Dreadful Reviews. Please bear with me as I am not a chef, but this is the recipe I use every year. I originally discovered it in a cookbook that was handed down to me, but I have tweaked it quite a bit within the last few years and have really made it my own. By the way, these cookies are great to leave out for Krampus -- uhhh... I mean Ol’ Saint Nick. Yes, Mr. Sandy Claws. Not the half-goat half-Hell demon that takes away the bad little children who misbehave. Anyway, here is my recipe and I hope you all enjoy it!



- 3 cups of all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon of ground ginger
- 2-½ teaspoons of ground cinnamon
- ¾-cup of brown sugar
- 6 tablespoons of light margarine
- ½-cup of cooking molasses
- 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract
- 1 large egg (or ¼-cup of pureéd silken tofu) 


You will also need 2 large bowls, 2 cookie sheets, parchment paper, a mixer, a rolling pin, cookie icing and, of course, cookie cutters. I have chosen a standard gingerbread man cookie cutter, as well as my Freddy and Jason cookie cutters that I received in November’s Horror Block.



1) Stir together flour, salt, nutmeg, ginger, and cinnamon in one of the large bowls.

2) In your second large bowl, combine your margarine and sugar and mix on low until these ingredients are combined. Do not over-mix -- or else... 

3) Next up, in the bowl with the margarine and sugar, add in your egg, molasses, and vanilla extract. Beat on low until combined.

4) Slowly add your flour mixture to the bowl with your wet ingredients. If you find that your dough is a little bit wet, add in another ¼ cup of flour.

5) Set your cookie dough uncovered in the fridge for approximately half-an-hour.

6) Preheat the oven to 375° F. Afterwards, prepare your counter space for the cookie dough by generously sprinkling flour on the surface and getting out your rolling pin.

7) Place the dough from your refrigerator onto the counter, roll it out until it’s about ¼-inch thick, and begin cutting.

8) Place your ginger-dead people on a parchment-lined cookie sheet for about 8 to 9 minutes or until edges are slightly browned.

9) Once the cookies are out of the oven and have cooled, feel free to decorate with icing however you please!
